Booking and Information

Are you thinking of a career with horses or perhaps you've already started down the British Horse Society (BHS) career pathway and have an assessment coming up soon?   If so, this is a day designed to help you.

This event is aimed at showing you what is expected in the Care Assessment for Stages 1, 2 and 3 - if you are preparing for an exam this year or maybe next or just wish to improve your stable management knowledge then you'll find this training day extremely helpful, insightful and enjoyable.  The BHS coaches delivering the training are also BHS Assessors so know exactly what's required for BHS assessments - you will have direct access to these extremely knowledgeable coaches for the day.

Please bring your own lunch and wear suitable clothing for working around horses, including your riding hat, gloves and please wear suitable footwear.

The attendees will be split in to groups as follows,  (when booking please stipulate which group you would like to join)

Stage 1 Care - Tacking up including martingale, grooming - reasons for, points of horse and colours, rules of feeding, mucking out and various types of bedding, rugs - types and fitting, turning out and responsibility of working on a yard

Stage 2 Care - Fitting tack, including a breast girth, preparation for travel, feeding, worming, horse health, condition, digestion, skeletal frame

Stage 3 Care - Fitting tack including double bridle, exercise bandages, studs, feeding, fitness, systems, health, confirmation, managing turn out, behaviour

Lunge Demo -

A demo for all to watch - Stage 2 and 3 Lunging - What the Assessors want to see and definitely don't want to see!

A demo showing the effective and safe handling of the equipment, a clear understanding of why we lunge and the difference between lunging for exercise (Stage 2) and lunging a fit horse to maintain its training in walk, trot and canter (Stage 3).  Your chance to ask the BHS Assessors those niggling questions and learn how to lunge safely and effectively.

Your BHS Instructors/BHS Assessors for the day are Denize King BHSI and Julie Biggs BHSI
