Emily is recognised for her leading role in planning, organising and actively participating in annual Rural Safety Tours — helping to promote the BHS Dead Slow campaign across Wiltshire. This involves visiting city and county town markets and equine establishments, helping the BHS committee in Wiltshire spread the Dead Slow message to thousands of motorists and other road users.
Emily also had a key part in initiating our first Close Pass Operation in a particular Wiltshire hot spot, educating a significant number of motorists on how they should pass horses safely on the road.
PC Sarah Harward

Part of the mounted police section within the South Wales Police, Sarah’s tenacity to gain and maintain support from the force when resources are so finite, deserves commendation in itself. As a result of Sarah’s efforts, Operation Arabis Safe Pass ran very successfully, with approximately 50 drivers spoken to over the course of three days, and the social media which complemented the initiative has been particularly successful and impactful.
Sarah’s involvement has reinforced all the important messages from the BHS, and has not only raised awareness but also started important discussions between different road users on collaboration.

Lesley has been a dedicated BHS volunteer since 1985! Specific to this award, she took on a safety role in October 2018. Since then she has created a profound impact on local equestrian safety by regularly monitoring reports sent to the BHS and responding in ways which improve knowledge, awareness and impact. Lesley has been a fantastic advocate for the BHS, she has proactively reached out to key stakeholders in her local area and forged good relationships, focused on making things safer for everyone — including dogs and cyclists, as well as equestrians.
