About us
A Horses Welcome Establishment, Cwmfillo with its twelve acres ‘rests’ in Rhulen, a fold in the magical, tranquil Radnorshire Hills, a natural amphitheatre in the very heart of the Welsh Marches. It is a place of ancient peace and beauty with hidden secrets to be discovered and shared.
We have five rooms with flexible accommodation, Equine B+B providing American Barn style accommodation housing six large, light and airy rubber matted stables, grazing and a 24m X 44m manege.
Cwmfillo was featured in ‘Your Horse’ Magazine, May 2012 as one of “Britain's best take-your-horse-along riding holidays”, is part of the ‘Brecon Beacons and Radnorshire Loop’, a member of ‘Equine Ramblers’ and is a human and equine Bed and Breakfast provider for Freerein Horse Holidays.
Cwmfillo offers the perfect base for riders wishing to prepare for the event itself or to use it as a venue to run a training programme from to ‘acclimatise’ their equine athletes to the rolling Randnorshire hills.
With competition in mind, the Royal Welsh Show ground is only 5.5 miles distance making Cwmfillo a perfect stay over for events such as the Cobs Sales, Spring Festival, Royal Welsh Show, Fairoaks etc.
A warm welcome awaits for both human and horses alike whether training, competing or leisure riding.
There is nothing better at the end of a long, eventful day than to rest, relax and kick back knowing that your equine chum is just outside doing the same!
Your horse will be as spoilt as you during their stay. There is a choice of stable only, stable and turn out or just turn out!
All field boundaries are safe and secure with access to fresh water and shade.
The six large stables have ‘American Barn’ style layout and are light and roomy with plenty of ventilation.
All horses can see and chat to each other.
There is plenty of room under cover to wash and prepare your horse or pony if you are off to a major show at the Royal Welsh Showground, or to hose your horse down after a day exploring on the hill.
Organic meadow hay and hard feed is available upon request.
The stable yard is securely gated and the large barn doors can be closed, if required.
Purpose-built tack room facilities are at your disposal as are sun chairs if you wish to sit in the evening sun and read a bedtime story to your equine chum!
Cwmfillo offers friendly, flexible, comfortable, cosy, log fired, farmhouse accommodation with a difference!
Although a rural retreat, Cwmfillo affords ease of access to Builth Wells, Hay-On-Wye (Town of Books), the Wye Valley and is a spring board to Mid Wales.
We have a choice of double, twin and single rooms - see our website for more information.
We offer a farmhouse style dining room with log fire and with picturesque views of the surrounding hills.
All our menus/meals include delicious home cooking, using home grown, organic or locally sourced produce.
Packed lunches and evening meals by arrangement.
The out riding from Cwmfillo is second to none, from the moment you leave the yard. Within half a mile of quiet lane you reach the open hill! The scenery is diverse, from open moorland, hill and turf to quiet lanes, bridleways and Old Drovers roads.
The views are breathtaking and spectacular. There are three excellent day petal rides which make use of a pub stop for lunch or take a packed lunch and ‘off road’ – the options are particularly endless.
If linear routes are more your thing a ‘shuttle service’ of transport can be arranged. We can provide ‘luggage transfer’ to another stop over if you wish to overnight elsewhere as part of your journey before returning.
Suggestions and advice are at hand to help you plan routes and trails of various lengths so that you make the very best out of your time in the saddle.
There is an all-weather manége 24m x 44m complete with jumps put at your disposal – the options are vast and numerous!
