Every young person deserves a chance

Not every young person finds it easy to thrive in a classroom.

Some are struggling with anxiety, low confidence or additional needs. Others have become disconnected from education.

Through hands-on learning, supportive relationships and the unique connection between horses and people, Changing Lives Through Horses helps young people build confidence, develop practical skills and see a positive future for themselves.

For many, it's the first time in a long time that they feel understood, capable and hopeful.

"School and the classroom are like a thunderstorm that never stops, but I like horses as they listen and never ask questions."

– Charlie, Changing Lives Through Horses participant

How it works

Some need a different path

Across the UK, growing numbers of young people are struggling with their mental health, missing education or becoming disconnected from learning.

Many face barriers that traditional settings can't easily overcome. Without support, confidence falls and opportunities become more limited.

But with the right environment and the right support, things can change.

"I'll always be so grateful."

"Without Changing Lives Through Horses, I wouldn't be able to access any education." At 15, Isla had stopped attending school. She had tried different alternative education settings, but none felt right. Through Changing Lives Through Horses (CLTH), she found somewhere she felt welcomed, supported and understood. Working with horses helped her build confidence and reconnect with learning. She has since achieved qualifications and moved on to more advanced training. Today, Isla is looking forward to her future again.

What young people gain

Every activity is designed to help young people build the skills they need to thrive in education, work and life. Participants develop six core life skills:

Communication • Confidence • Teamwork • Relationships • Perseverance • Responsibility

  • Believing in themselves and their abilities.
  • Building stronger relationships and expressing themselves.
  • Developing resilience and learning to keep going when things feel difficult.
  • Learning through practical horse care and routines.

Many also work towards recognised awards and qualifications, helping them take positive steps towards education, training or employment.
