With your help, we can continue to protect, honour, and celebrate these wonderful horses long into the future.
By leaving a legacy gift in your will to the BHS, you can not only pass on your love for horses to the next generation, but to many generations to come.
Our work would simply not be possible without the kind gifts supporters leave us in their wills.

Also known as legacy donation, legacy giving describes the act of leaving assets or a portion of your estate to a charity (such at The British Horse Society) through a will or estate plan.

Giving the gift of legacy can take many forms, including:
- Bequests which define a specific sum of money, or percentage of estate or assets designed for a charity
- Beneficiary designations where a charity becomes a named beneficiary of certain accounts
- Charitable trusts which provide ongoing support for a designated charity
- Gifts of property such as real estate, artwork, or other valuable assets
Why leave a gift in my Will?

- This gift now costs you nothing
- The gift that is left to the charity is tax-free.
- Charitable gifts can also reduce the amount of Inheritance Tax that the rest of your estate will pay. If you give at least 10% of your taxable estate to charity, the Inheritance Tax for the rest of your estate drops from 40% to 36%.

Carolyn Andrews
“A BHS Development officer in the south west for twelve years, Carolyn had a big heart for Welfare. Thanks to the legacy kindly given by the late Carolyn Andrews, we are continuing to meet horse owners to discuss weight management options through weighing and fat scoring horses at centres, yards and events.”
Stewart Hastie
“The BHS Stewart Hastie Veterinary Student Champion scheme was set up in Stewart's memory. This scheme was launched in partnership with the University of Surrey’s School of Veterinary Medicine in 2016 to create a link between veterinary students, horse owners and the work of the BHS.
Vet schools are approached to identify a ‘vet student champion’ for this scheme to sponsor for one year.”
